L'Arbre au soleil (Hidamari no Ki)

In Edo, 1855, within the Hill of the Three Hundred district: Japan's isolationist foreign policy has been lifted, marking the onset of the Bakumatsu era. Ibuya Manjiro, a 26-year-old samurai beginning his career as a low-ranking retainer to the minor daimyo Lord Matsudaira, crosses paths with Tezuka Ryoan, a 29-year-old disciple of Dutch medicine newly accepted at Teki Academy in Osaka. Each possesses a fiery temperament to match their talents, and amidst brewing upheaval, both men quickly find themselves in trouble, despite their mutual dislike.
